MMA blends a combination of Muay Thai kickboxing, wrestling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ). If you have previous martial arts training in other disciplines, for example Karate, you will be able to blend in your experience to make the techniques you learn here even more effective. MMA fights start on the feet, which is where the Muay Thai and wrestling skills come in to play. Muay Thai kickboxing has proven to be the most effective striking art in MMA because you use all of your body (hands, elbows, knees and shins for kicks) along with a strong skillset in the clinch. Fighters can also decide to wrestle their opponent to the ground rather trade punches and kicks.

Once on the ground, BJJ becomes the dominant art. BJJ artists use leverage and positioning to choke and joint lock their opponents into submission. MMA started as a way to showcase BJJ’s effectiveness in no-holds-barred situations. You will learn the keys to becoming an effective ground fighter by training MMA.

When you start MMA training, you will start with a good warm-up which includes calisthenics, stretching and MMA-style movements. The warm-up will be followed by practicing techniques on a particular aspect of MMA (standup, clinch, or ground game). If you are comfortable you can engage in sparring, in which you will be taught how to stay in control to keep both you and your training partner free from injury.

Even though you will be learning how to fight, you do not have to compete in MMA. In fact, most people who train MM do not actually fight. If you choose to fight, the live drilling and sparring will be more intense in order to prepare you for your fight.

MMA is a great workout and a lot of fun. You will make great friends and get in the best shape of your life. You will learn how to fight in all phases of a fight (standup, clinch and ground game) and know how to dominate your opponent in each of these areas. Come give us a try; you will be glad you did.
